Minister seeks system changes for small generators

4 December 2001

Wilson said that he supported changes to ease the costs of connection from small generators, and suggested incentives should be provided to distribution companies.

'Distribution needs to move from the passive, one way networks of today to intelligent, actively managed networks capable of accepting power flows in either direction,' he said at the first meeting of the Distributed Generation co-ordinating Group. 'We have the skills and technology in this country to be work leaders in renewables. Affordable and fair access to the local distribution networks has a vital role to play in encouraging greater use of renewables.'
