1 December 2004

The Nam Theun 1 dam and power station will be situated on the lower reach of the Nam Theun river, a short distance upstream from the Mekong river. The plant is expected to be operational by 2010, and once completed will generate electricity for export to the Electricity General Authority of Thailand.

The agreement was signed by Vice President of the Lao Committee for Planning and Investment Thongmy Phomvisay and Gamuda Director Dato Linyunling in Vientiane, after the Government of Lao confirmed they were satisfied with the preliminary technical and social/environmental studies on the project.
