New contracts for Andritz in Latin America

Andritz Hydro is modernise and equip three hydropower projects in Brazil and Nicaragua in contracts valued at EUR 70 million.

In Brazil, Andritz will supply four new Francis runners for the 1676MW Governor Bento Munhoz da Rocha Netto hydropower plant in a contract awarded by Companhia Paranaense de Energia (COPEL). To be delivered by 2022, the runners will have increased efficiency and improved cavitation behaviour, including speed and voltage regulators.

In Nicaragua, the company will supply the electrical equipment, including new switchgears, main transformers, medium- and low-voltage equipment, as well as protection, excitation, control, and automation systems, for the modernization of the Carlos Fonseca and Centroamérica hydropower stations, located in the La Rauda valley.

The contract, awarded by Empresa Nicaragüense de Electricidad (ENEL), also includes repair and renovation work to the spherical valves, butterfly valves, and gates.

The Carlos Fonseca and Centroamérica hydropower stations will be placed back into commercial operation in 2017 and 2018, respectively.
