Online Canadian hydropower map launched

8 June 2016

The Canadian Hydropower Association (CHA), in conjunction with the Royal Canadian Geographical Society, has launched an online interactive map showing the locations of almost every Canadian hydro dam and generating station.

Launched today at the annual Forum in Ottawa, the map shows the location of a facility, which utility runs it, the size and the associated transmission network.

"Canada's number one electricity source is hydropower, we are the world's third largest generator and we could still more than double in size. Hydropower is a truly national resource with installed capacity and potential for development from coast to coast," said Jacob Irving, President of the CHA. "We're excited to display this in greater detail with the help of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society's world renowned cartographers. Canadians will now be able to better review and explore our hydropower capacity online through a map based platform."

The map can be viewed on the CHA's website.
