Project to allow remote operation of Baba hydro plant, Ecuador

The Electricity Corporation of Ecuador (CELEC EP) is carrying out a project that will allow the remote operation of the 42MW Baba hydroelectric in Los Ríos province from the load control center at the Marcel Laniado De Wind (MLDW) plant in Guayas province.

Specialists from Voith in Brazil will be involved with the project at Baba, while specialists from Siemens in Colombia will be involved with the project at MLDW.

The objectives of the project are: to enable remote controls for the Baba plant; increase reliability and operational safety in contingency situations; allow operational continuity; technological use of the modernization of the SCADA communications system in the MLDW Plant; and efficient management of water and energy resources in the Business Unit.
