Ralph Nelson joins Kleinschmidt Associates as Senior Engineering Consultant

Kleinschmidt Associates has announced the appointment of Ralph Nelson, P.E., as the company’s new Senior Engineering Consultant.

Bringing with him an extensive background as a seasoned civil/structural hydraulic engineer, Ralph Nelson boasts over four decades of diverse experience. His proficiency encompasses planning, licensing, permitting support, as well as the design and construction of hydroelectric and industrial projects. Having served in pivotal roles such as Project Manager, Project Engineer, and Engineer, Ralph has spearheaded feasibility and environmental studies, conducted hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, and provided vital support for licensing and permitting endeavours. His design portfolio includes working with various materials such as steel, wood, and concrete, with structural analyses covering powerhouses, dams, intake structures, and related facilities. Notably, Ralph has also been involved in the design of fish passage structures, including nature-like fishways, Denil, vertical slots, and eel ramps.

In his statement, Ralph Nelson expressed enthusiasm about rejoining Kleinschmidt, where he commenced his career, and collaborating with an experienced and innovative team dedicated to serving the hydropower industry. "I look forward to contributing my skills and expertise to help the team achieve its goals," he added.

Nelson holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Northeastern University and is an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Maine Section. Additionally, he is a Registered Professional Engineer in Maine.
