BC Hydro has awarded four contracts for the balance of plant work on the Site C project in Canada, meaning all six balance of plant contracts for the hydroelectric project is complete.
Three of the contracts were awarded to Nanaimo-based F&M Installations Ltd. and the other was awarded to Aecon-Flatiron-Dragados-EBC (AFDE) Partnership.
F&M Installations Ltd. will be responsible for the architectural walls, fixtures, fittings and finishings to complete the powerhouse and operations building in the first contract valued at $29.5 million, and will design, supply, install and commission the fire detection and protection systems in a second $29.5 million contract. It will also design, supply, install and commission the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) equipment for the powerhouse, intake and spillways structures in its third contract, which has been valued at $36 million.
AFDE will supply, install and support the commissioning of the permanent upstream fishway and other structures outside of the powerhouse, intake and spillways structures in its $87 million contract. All work is expected to be complete in 2024.
The balance of plant contracts are required to complete the construction of the generating station and spillways, along with other related facilities on the project.
The Site C Clean Energy Project is the third dam and hydroelectric generating station being built on the Peace River in northeast British Columbia. The project will supply 1100MW of capacity, and produce nearly 5100GWh of electricity annually.
