Rotork electro-hydraulic actuator installed at Spanish hydro plant

13 March 2020

A Rotork electro-hydraulic actuator has been successfully installed at a hydroelectric plant operated by Repsol in the heart of a Spanish mountain range.

A Rotork Skilmatic actuator is being used to operate a critical butterfly valve installed on a pipeline feeding the power plant’s turbine at the site, which is located high up in the Picos de Europa mountains.

The actuator has been installed on the Naranjo de Bulnes peak, which reaches a summit of 2518m above sea level, in Camarmena, an area in the northern Spanish principality of Asturias.

The site’s height and access difficulties made the installation difficult but Rotork’s service engineers from the Spanish office ensured that the installation was successful, said the company.
