SSE generates first power at Glendoe

Construction work began on site began almost three years ago. The project is being built by the Hochtief Glendoe JV, a joint venture led by Hochtief. The designer is Poyry Energy and generation plant is supplied by andritz va-tech Hydro.

The project includes construction of a 35m high, 905m long CFRD dam, an underground powerhouse (47m long by 19m wide by 33m high, excavated dimensions) and more than 16km of tunnels.

A single Pelton turbine-generator unit is being supplied for the project.

The tunnels were constructed using a TBM and by drill and blast excavation. The shield holed through almost a year ago.
