The LIMPET

13 April 2000

The LIMPET (Land Installed Marine Powered Energy Transformer), developed by Wavegen, will be installed on the island of Islay in the Scottish Hebrides. The project will be one of the first in the world to use wave energy to generate power for the grid. The project received a contract under the Scottish Renewables Obligation in 1999, under which it will receive 5.95p for every kWh of electricity it supplies to the network.
