Tibet work moves on

10 November 1998

Progress reports on Tibet’s largest water conservancy project say it will be completed in five years at a cost of US$120M.

The Manlha Water Control Project is located in Gyaze county in southwestern Xigaze prefecture. It includes construction of a dam on the Nyangqu to form a reservoir with a storage capacity of 155M m3, and a 20MW power station. While the station is expected to generate 61M kWh of electricity annually, the reservoir will provide water to irrigate 16,000ha of farmland.

Construction work on the main project commenced in August 1995 and is due for completion in 2000.
