Tractebel Energia posts Q4-’07 results

Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) jumped nearly 17% to R$1,860M (US$1,093M) compared to last time. Conslidated net revenues were just over R$3B (US$1.76B), a rise of 12.5%, mainly due to higher average energy prices.

The company is a subsidiary of the Suez Energy International and is Brazil’s largest private electricity generator. It is headquartered in Florianopolis, Santa Catarina. Hydropower assets are a major feature in the firm’s portfolio.

Hydropower plants owned by the company include: Cana Brava (450MW, 385GWh/yr) on the river Tocantins; Ita (1,127MW, 913GWh/yr) on the river Uruguai; Passo Fundo (226MW, 276GWh/yr on the river of the same name; Salto Osorio (1,078MW) and Salto Santiago (1,420MW, approximately 1,500 GWh/yr), both on the river Iguacu.

Tractebel Energia also has a 35% stake in Machadinho (1,140MW).

In addition, the firm bought another hydropower plant last year and is building two more projects.

In December 2007, Tractebel Energia acquired the Ponte da Pedra (176MW) plant from the JV of Impregilo and Skanska for R$592M (US$348M), and is awaiting approval of the purchase.

The company is currently developing two hydro projects on the river Tocantins in north Brazil – Sao Salvador (241MW) and Estreito (1,087MW).
