Turkey to transfer hydro to private sector

29 November 2005

No timetable for the process has been announced although 16 large hydro plants with a combined capacity of around 2000MW were transferred to privatisation body OIB last year.

Turkey has 135 hydro plants with a total installed capacity of 12,631MW including the 2400MW Ataturk and 1330MW Keban units. Major facilities are not expected to be entirely privatised under the programme but those assets transferred to OIB are due to be sold or leased to the private sector.
