UK funds sought for Turkish dam

17 August 2001

The UK government is considering a funding request for another hydro dam project in Turkey, amidst the ongoing discussions over funds for the Ilisu dam on the Tigris river.

A UK consulting engineering company, Amec, is part of a consortium seeking to build the Yusefeli hydroelectric dam on the Coruh river in northeast Turkey. Amec has applied for support from the export-credit-guarantee-department after nearly two years of talks.

The consortium is also applying for support from the equivalent official credit agencies in France, Belgium and Spain.
