Upgrade at Jaybird

9 June 2003

The 154MW Jaybird facility is owned by the Sacremento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) and is located on the south fork of the American river. The condition monitoring system is being provided as part of a larger project with ge-hydro who is refurbishing and upgrading the plants two generating units, significantly increasing the power rating of each from 77 to 85MVA. The project is slated to start in 2004 with a commissioning date of January 2005.

Bently Nevada will supply a total unit condition assessment system to measure vibration, temperature, air gap, position and speed. It will include Bently Nevada's System 1 Plant Asset Management software, which ties all monitored parameters, including power and current, into a single software package that can be accessed locally or remotely. The System 1 platform will also allow the future inclusion of additional condition-related measurements being considered by SMUD, as well as other mechanical assets in the plant, providing a single, integrated asset management system
