The contracts were awarded by Stockholm based Fortum Generation and are to cover upgrades at the Forshult power plant in Klarälven, located 80km north of Karlstad, and the Långströmmen scheme in Ljusnan, about 40km east of Sveg.

At Forshult, scope of supply is to include a new Kaplan runner, turbine shaft and bearings, a new runner chamber, a high pressure governor system and self-lubricated bushings.

The turbine's output is to be increased from 9.5MW–11.27MW, and the flow rate will increase from 90m3/sec–100m3/sec. The runner diameter will increase from its current 3920mm up to 4080mm.

At Långströmmen, GE is to supply a Kaplan runner, new turbine shaft and bearings, a high pressure governor system and self-lubricated bushings. The generating capacity of the refurbished turbine will increase from 26MW–29MW.

Equipment is to come from GE’s Norwegian or Finnish facilities with the power plants expected to resume commercial operation in November 2004.
