20 September 2004

The contract includes the design, manufacture, supply, installation and commissioning of 4 x 33MW Kaplan turbines, alternators, digital governors, excitation systems, transformers, 220kV GIS and auxiliaries.

Work is to be carried out by local subsidiaries VA Tech Hydro India and VA Tech Escher Wyss Flovel on behalf of the Indian National Grid and is expected to last into early 2008.

Separately, the company has also been awarded a US$120M contract for work on the Kopswerk II pumped storage power plant in Montafon, Austria. Once operational in 2007, the new facility will contribute 450MW of energy generating capacity to the Energie Baden Württemberg grid.

Plans for the project highlight environmental compatibility as a priority with all but the switchgear and access road to be constructed inside a mountain.
