14 March 2008

Endesa Italia has contracted the JV to refurbish three plants – Galleto, Baschi and Alviano - which are near Rome. The work is to be completed by next year.

The contract calls for a total of eight turbines to be installed at the plants – four at Galletto, two at Baschi and two at Alviano. New digital governor will also be installed with complete control systems and auxiliary electrical equipment based on Andritz VA Tech Hydro’s “Neptun” system.

VA Tech Escher Wyss is an affiliate of Andritz VA Tech Hydro, and it will have a two-thirds share of the total contract value. It is also responsible for the design, manufacture, installation and commissioning of the turbine units.

Andritz, the principal holding group for the hydro businesses, also recently added to its portfolio with the acquisition of Hungarian turbine component manufacturer Tiszakecskei Gepgyar. The firm is to make components for hydropower and other products in future.
