Voltalia gets ok for new hydro in Morocco

15 February 2018

The Moroccan Ministry for Energy has approved permits for two small hydropower plants being developed by Voltalia in the Middle-Atlas region.

The permits for the 9.8MW and 7.2MW projects follow positive technical approvals delivered by the National Bureau for Electricity and Drinking Water regarding the connection of the plants to the national grid. Water Basin Agencies have also given the greenlight for the schemes.

Electricity produced by the two projects is to be sold under long-term private PPAs, which are currently under negotiation with corporate clients.

“These permits come as a recognition of the extensive work done over the past three years by our Moroccan team,” said Sébastien Clerc, CEO of Voltalia.

“They confirm Voltalia’s capacity to position itself as a first class partner for the electricity provision of its clients, at a competitive price” added Yoni Ammar, CEO of Voltalia Morocco.
