Xayaburi starts commercial operation in Lao PDR

The 1285MW Xayaburi hydroelectric plant in Lao PDR has begun commercial operations, shareholder CK Power has announced.

The plant, which is being operated by the Xayaburi Power Company Ltd, began supplying electricity to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) on 29 October 2019.

Xayaburi Power Company has a 29-year power purchase agreement in place with EGAT. Under the terms of the deal the project will supply 1220MW to EGAT, with the remaining electricity going to Electricite du Laos.

CK Power holds a 37.5% stake in Xayaburi Power Company.
