An official opening ceremony was held for the Yusufeli Dam on the Çoruh River in northeastern Artvin province of Turkey at the weekend, with the country’s president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stating that once complete it will add over $221 million to the economy every year.
The 275m high dam – the highest in the country – has a hydroelectric capacity of 540MW. It is expected to be completed in April 2021, when it will increase the country’s hydropower production by 2%.
The project will feature three Francis turbines, each with a capacity of 180MW.
