Alpiq Holding Ltd has appointed Peter-Wim Gerssen as its new Chief Financial Officer. The company’s Board of Directors confirmed the decision, with Gerssen set to succeed current CFO Luca Baroni at the end of October 2025.
Gerssen, 53, is a Dutch national with a background in business economics. He holds a Master’s degree in Business Science and an Executive Master from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He has held several international leadership positions in the energy sector, including roles in financial management, risk assessment, and compliance. Most recently, he served as CEO and previously CFO of Shell Asset Management Company in The Hague.
“With his extensive experience in transformation processes and M&A, his deep and proven expertise as CFO and his international perspective – combined with his strong commitment to value-based leadership – Peter-Wim is the ideal candidate to support Alpiq’s strategy implementation, driving both growth and stability in the years ahead,” said Alpiq CEO Antje Kanngiesser.
Baroni has served as CFO at Alpiq for over four years. Kanngiesser thanked him for his work, particularly in reducing debt, refinancing, and stabilising the company.
Gerssen said: “I am very much looking forward to my new position at Alpiq, to the exciting challenges posed by the energy transition, and to contributing to the future of energy supply as part of a larger societal mission.”
Gerssen currently lives with his family in The Hague. His appointment is intended to ensure a smooth leadership transition as Baroni departs later this year.
