Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema inspected construction of the Kinguélé Aval Hydropower Station on August 11, a project being built by POWERCHINA to expand the country’s electricity supply.

Nguema toured the dam site and power station facilities, where he was briefed on construction progress, technology being used, and quality control measures.

“The Kinguélé Aval project is strategic in alleviating electricity supply pressures in Libreville, ensuring a stable power supply for residents, and driving economic and social development,” Nguema said. He thanked the workers on site and praised POWERCHINA for creating jobs and supporting small and medium-sized businesses involved in the project.

Located about 100km from Libreville, the hydropower plant will have three generator units with a combined capacity of 35MW. Once completed, it is expected to generate around 200GWh of electricity each year, equivalent to 13% of Libreville’s current demand.

POWERCHINA said work on the project remains on track. The company has been operating in Gabon since 2008 and has completed more than 10 infrastructure projects, including the 160MW Grand Poubara hydropower station.
