Work on the Se San 3 hydroelectric power plant, straddling the border of the Vietnamese Central Highlands provinces of Gia Lai and Kon Tum, was reported to be seven months ahead of schedule in late May, according to the Vietnamese News Agency. The 260MW plant could be operational in 2004, one year earlier than planned.
The Song Da Construction Corporation is constructing the plant, which will generate 1.13M kWh of electricity each year. A total of six hydroelectric power plants are to be constructed along the 237km long Se San river, with the construction of the remaining four to be started by 2010.
