Hidroelectrica has awarded a contract to Siemens Energy SRL for the supply of seven 216 MVA, 15.75/242 kV transformers for the Porțile de Fier I hydropower plant, following the completion of a competitive tender process.

Siemens Energy SRL secured the contract with a financial offer of RON 117,138,785.96 (excluding VAT) (approximately US$25.7m), achieving the highest score in the evaluation. The tender had an estimated value of RON 118,328,517.54 (excluding VAT) (approximately US$26m) and was conducted through Romania’s Electronic Public Procurement System (SEAP).

The transformers form part of Hidroelectrica’s ongoing modernisation programme for the Porțile de Fier I facility.

Located on the Danube River, the Porțile de Fier I Hydropower Plant has an installed capacity of approximately 1,166MW on the Romanian side. Under normal hydrological conditions, it generates an average of 4–5TWh annually, representing a significant share of Hidroelectrica’s total output.

Hidroelectrica is Romania’s largest producer of renewable electricity, with more than 6.3GW of installed hydropower capacity, alongside the Crucea wind farm. The company plays a key role in national energy security and in supporting European Union decarbonisation targets.
