In Tajikistan, the company is looking at possible further involvement in a number of potential hydro power projects, including Nulabder.

The Chinese hydro power developer said its is interested in small hydro development in Ghana and recently submitted a proposed agreement to build four projects.

At present, Sinohydro is active in Ghana building the 400MW Bui plant on the Black Volta river. The project, which calls for construction of a 110m high RCC dam, has a total budget of US$600M, said the company. The plant is to produce approximately 1000GWh annually. The engineer, procurement and construction (EPC) contract was signed in April 2007 and work began on site a year ago.

Work is getting underway in Sudan on the Rosalens dam heightening project for the country’s Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation. The dam is to be heightened by 10m, adding reservoir storage capacity of 4Bm3 under a contract valued at almost US$400M and due to take about three and a half years.

In Gabon, Sinohydro is undertaking preliminary planning work for the Bubaha project. The scheme looks set to get support from China’s Exim bank.
