Chameliya hydroelectric plant will be built at the Chameliya river, a tributary of the Mahakali river. It is a run-of-river plant that will lie about 900km west of Kathmandu in the Darchula district of Far Western Development Region.

The project will feature a 54m high concrete gravity dam with two 13.5m high radial gates and a semi-underground power house with two units of 15MW vertical shaft Francis turbines, according to officials.

The estimated cost of the Chameliya project is US$75M, which includes a 131km long, 132kV transmission line. It is expected to generate 184.21GWh/yr.
