TAURON Ekoenergia has signed a contract valued at more than PLN 93m (US$26m) to renovate the dam and reservoir infrastructure at the Pilchowice hydroelectric power plant. The contractor selected through a public tender is Naviga-Stal. Preparatory work is scheduled to begin in January 2026.

The project covers repairs and upgrades to hydraulic, mechanical, structural, and electrical systems within the dam and reservoir. The objective is to restore the facility’s technical condition and ensure continued safe operation.

The contract also includes an option for an extended scope of works that could increase the dam’s capacity. A decision on whether to proceed with this additional phase is expected by late May or early June 2026.

The renovation is planned over a 24-month period. Work will be carried out with the reservoir maintained at varying water levels, allowing flood protection functions to remain in operation throughout the project. Initial activities will focus on site preparation and structural repairs that can be performed with the reservoir partially filled.

According to TAURON Group, the sequencing of works at Pilchowice has been designed to maintain the dam’s primary role in flood protection while minimizing operational risks. The company expects the project to improve long-term safety for downstream communities in the Lower Silesia region.
