A call has also been made to dredge the Rivers Niger and Benue. Reports claim that the Mainji reservoir has not been dredged since 1964. A spokesperson said that the reservoirs should be dredged to design levels and then dredged every five years.

The Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) has reportedly advised the federal government to hasten the design and construction of the Mambilla and Katsina-Ala hydro power dams. With a power capacity of 2600MW and 60MW respectively, the dams would not only provide much needed power but provide flood control.
