WEG has supplied two hydrogenerators for a new hydroelectric power plant currently under development in Turkey, strengthening the company’s position in the international hydropower equipment market.
The equipment was manufactured at WEG India’s Hosur facility and comprises an SPW-model hydrogenerator rated at 27,059 kVA, 11 kV, with 18 poles, along with an SPD-model unit rated at 6,059 kVA, 11 kV, with 10 poles. Both units are designed for 50 Hz operation and will be installed on Francis turbine units.
The hydrogenerators are scheduled for grid-synchronised operation following commissioning and will contribute additional renewable capacity to the Turkish power system. The project forms part of ongoing efforts to expand domestic generation using hydroelectric resources.
According to WEG, the supply demonstrates the company’s ability to execute large hydropower contracts through its global manufacturing network, with engineering, production and quality control managed from its Indian operations. WEG continues to deliver electromechanical equipment for new-build and rehabilitation hydropower projects across Asia, Europe and other international markets.
The Turkish project follows recent hydropower deliveries in Brazil, where the company has supplied complete electromechanical packages for small hydropower developments. At the Paredinha Hydropower Plant, WEG delivered three 7.3 MW turbines, three 7.8 MVA generators, transformers, electrical panels and substation equipment under a single contract. This project followed an earlier collaboration at the Boa Vista II Hydropower Plant, where WEG supplied turbines and generators of similar capacity.
