WEG has completed the supply of generation equipment for the Fundãozinho small hydropower plant (SHP), developed by Atiaia Renováveis, reinforcing an ongoing partnership between the two companies.

The contract includes two 11.3MW upstream S-type Kaplan turbines with 2.3m rotor diameters, as well as two 12.5MVA generators (frame size 1,400), each weighing 71.5 tonnes. WEG also supplied speed and voltage regulation systems. Equipment delivery, installation and commissioning were completed by June 2025, with commercial operations beginning in August.

A notable feature of the project is the integration of control and regulation technology from Reivax, expanding WEG’s in-house capabilities following its acquisition of the company.

The Fundãozinho SHP adds to a series of collaborations between WEG and Atiaia, following earlier work on the Foz do Cedro SHP. The latest project comes amid renewed activity in Brazil’s hydropower sector, supported by the A-5 energy auction in August, which contracted 65 projects totalling 815 average MW.

WEG said the installation will contribute to increased installed capacity and support the continued expansion of Brazil’s renewable energy mix, highlighting the role of small hydropower in diversifying generation sources.
