Consortium plans pumped storage upgrade

A consortium of European energy and technology companies says that the use of variable speed technology in pumped storage hydropower plants would help to cost-effectively integrate renewable energy into the European grid.

Alstom supplies equipment for biggest Colombian hydro plant

Alstom has been awarded a contract worth around €170M, by Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EPM) to supply turbine and generator units for the Ituango hydro power plant on the Cauca river in Colombia. It will be the country’s biggest hydro plant generating 2400MW.

Alstom successfully delivers the first unit of the Xiangjiaba plant

Alstom has successfully delivered the first generating unit at the Xiangjiaba hydropower plant in China. The 800MW Francis turbine and 889MVA generator unit passed a reliability trial run of 72 hours and recently began commercial operation.

Alstom to equip Baixo Iguaçu plant, Brazil

Alstom has signed a contract with Neoenergia for the supply of three Kaplan hydro turbines, generators, control command and protection systems as well as electromechanical and erection equipment for the Baixo Iguaçu hydropower plant in Brazil. The total contract value is €160M, including hydromechanical and lifting equipment, with Alstom’s share around €110M.
