Licensing success for Duke Energy

The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has issued a new 40-year operating licence to Duke Energy for the Catawba-Wateree hydroelectric project. The new licence allows the company to continue operating its 13 hydroelectric stations and 11 associated reservoirs located along the Catawba-Wateree River in North Carolina and South Carolina.

GE Renewable Energy to equip Mexican plant

GE Renewable Energy has been chosen to supply three bulb turbine-generators for the Chicoasén II project in Mexico. The Latin American consortium comprising Omega Construcciones Industriales, Sinohydro Costa Rica, Caabsa Infraestructura, and Desarrollo y Construcciones Urbanas made the decision about the hydro plant which belongs to the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE). The consortium will be led by the Sinohydro group and the CFE (who will also operate the power plant).

Private investors commit C$10.5 million to Canadian tidal project

Schottel Hydro subsidiary company Black Rock Tidal Power (BRTP) has announced that private investors have committed C$10.5 million – over two thirds of the cost – into a new project company set up to take over its Triton tidal energy platform once it is fully commissioned.
