Sunshine Hydro, a Queensland-based company specializing in around-the-clock carbon-free energy solutions, has been shortlisted as a state finalist for the 2024 Telstra Best of Business Awards.

The company has developed a software solution which integrates wind and solar, pumped hydro, green hydrogen and methanol production.

Michael Myer, the Chair of Sunshine Hydro, expressed his enthusiasm and gratitude for the recognition from the Telstra Best of Business Awards. He explained, "We set out to play an important role in decarbonizing the Australian economy with affordable, reliable, renewable energy. Today we believe our Superhybrid can provide the same energy security and reliability as a nuclear power plant."

The company's flagship project, the Djandori Superhybrid located in Gladstone, has garnered strong support from the local community, forged partnerships with traditional landowners, and made a committed effort to protect biodiversity in the region.

Sunshine Hydro's Djandori Superhybrid, in conjunction with the Dumaresq Superhybrid located in northern New South Wales, is poised to deliver 3.7TWh of continuous carbon-free energy, effectively reducing 6 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions on an annual basis when integrated with wind and solar power. This reduction represents roughly 1% of Australia's total annual carbon emissions.

The prestigious Telstra Best of Business Awards celebrate the achievements of small and medium-sized businesses and individuals contributing to Australia's economic, social, and cultural prosperity. The winners for the state of Queensland will be officially announced on November 3, 2023.
