Andritz to supply equipment for Lauca hydropower project, Angola

Andritz Hydro has announced it will supply electromechanical equipment for the new 2067MW Lauca hydropower plant in Angola.

The project includes development of a 132m high roller-compacted concrete (RCC) dam with a crest length of 1075m.

Andritz is to deliver six Francis turbines, each with an output of 340MW, as well as generators and additional equipment for the main power plant, which will be located in a cavern 21m wide and 273m long.

The order was received from GAMEK, a part of the Angolan power corporation Empresa Nacional de Electricidade via engineering and construction company Construtora Norberto Odebrecht. It will enter into force during 2014, upon fulfillment of all administrative requirements.

The value of the order was not disclosed. However, Andritz said the value for comparable deliveries lies in the lower three-digit million euro range.

The Lauca hydropower station is being developed on the Kwanza River between the Cambambe and Capanda projects.Commissioning of the project is expected for the end of 2017, Anritz said.
