WaterPower Canada has announced the launch of HydroFutures, a national careers hub designed to connect the next generation of workers with opportunities across the country’s waterpower sector.
The initiative comes as hydropower, which is already responsible for more than 60% of Canada’s electricity generation, faces growing demand for skilled labour to support grid expansion, modernisation efforts and the development of new projects, including those involving Indigenous partnerships.
HydroFutures is positioned as a central platform for students and early-career professionals to explore career pathways in the sector. It will provide access to job listings, employer connections and information on roles spanning skilled trades, engineering and technical disciplines.
Industry leaders say thousands of additional workers will be needed in the coming years to sustain Canada’s leadership in renewable hydropower and to meet increasing electricity demand driven by electrification and decarbonization goals.
In addition to job listings, the platform features career-mapping tools, educational resources and insights into different roles across the waterpower value chain, helping users better understand required skills, training pathways and long-term progression opportunities within the industry.
The platform has been developed with support from founding partners across the industry, reflecting a coordinated effort to build a future-ready workforce.
HydroFutures is now live and accessible nationwide.
