Voith has secured a contract for the 200MW Lapchi Khola hydropower project in Nepal, its ninth hydropower project in the country.
Developed by Nasa Hydropower Limited, part of the MV Dugar Group, Lapchi Khola is set to become Nepal’s largest vertical Pelton hydropower plant developed by a private investor.
Voith has not disclosed the value of the contract or detailed the scope of equipment and services to be supplied for the project.
The company said the latest award takes its cumulative installed and contracted hydropower portfolio in Nepal to more than 600MW.
Lapchi Khola builds on Voith’s involvement in several other hydropower developments in Nepal, including the Likhu IV, Solu Khola (Dudhkoshi) and Rasuwagadhi projects.
Voith described Nepal as one of South Asia’s developing hydropower markets, with investment continuing in new generation capacity as the country seeks to make greater use of its hydropower resources.
The company said the latest contract reflects its continued expansion in Nepal and its long-term involvement in the country’s hydropower sector.
