Hydro Commissioning at Sherard Water Treatment Plant
Our hydro engineers are recently back from the USA after successfully completing the commissioning of our latest hydropower turbine in North America. The 867 kW Vertical Four Jet Pelton is installed on a water treatment facility in Wyoming, USA.

Grytviken Micro Hydro
Earlier this month our hydro sales team signed a contract with the Government of South Georgia for a micro hydro scheme at the Grytviken site in South Georgia. The 13kW Compact Turgo will be the second installation on the Island in addition to an existing 250kW twin jet Turgo installed in 2007, providing power to Grytviken and the British Antarctic Survey Base at King Edward Point.

In early 2011, it was clear that the Feed in Tariff was achieving exactly what it was designed to do for the UK small hydro sector, the number of schemes on enquiry and under contract for construction was starting to increase significantly as momentum and interest gained in small hydro. In an effort to provide greater operational support and breakdown response cover to our existing and future customers, Gilkes made the decision to open our first Hydro Service Centre in Fort William, aiming to reduce engineer travel time, improve response and to be local for emergency breakdown support.
