Âmbar Energia, part of the J&F Group, has finalised the acquisition of four hydroelectric plants from Cemig, all located in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The plants have a combined installed capacity of 14.8MW..
The purchase follows an auction held at B3 in December 2024, where Âmbar won the bid for the assets. The transaction includes the Marmelos plant (4MW) in Juiz de Fora, Martins (7.7MW) in Uberlândia, Sinceridade (1.4MW) in Manhuaçu, and Machado Mineiro (1.7MW) in Águas Vermelhas.
With the deal completed, Âmbar now operates 20 hydroelectric units across Minas Gerais and Santa Catarina. The company’s generation portfolio includes 50 plants – either operational or in final stages of acquisition – covering solar, hydroelectric, biodiesel, biomass, biogas, and natural gas sources.
According to Âmbar president Marcelo Zanatta, the acquisition supports the company’s goal of maintaining a diversified energy portfolio and contributing to Brazil’s transition toward a low-carbon energy matrix. “Our priority is to ensure the country’s energy security, and diversification is key to achieving that,” Zanatta said.
