ANDRITZ Hydro has announced the successful contract award for the Kelantan Phase 1 hydroelectric project in Malaysia – its largest Compact Hydro order to date.

The contract covers the supply of electromechanical equipment for three run-of-river power plants in the Kelantan region, marking the culmination of over six years of project support. The equipment includes multiple Compact Bulb turbines (4,150 mm and 4,700 mm) with outputs of approximately 10MW each, as well as generators, control systems, auxiliary systems, and site services such as installation supervision and commissioning.

The Kelantan Phase 1 Cluster is noted for its high level of standardization. Identical turbines will be used at the Kemubu and Serasa sites, while larger turbines will be installed at Kuala Gris, setting new technical benchmarks.

Led by ANDRITZ’s Compact Hydro team in Ravensburg, Germany, the project involves collaboration across multiple company locations and partner organizations.

The project seen as a model for private hydropower development in Malaysia, having received multiple awards for its environmental and sustainability standards.

ANDRITZ acknowledged the contributions of project partners RP Hydro (Kelantan) Sdn Bhd, XD Power Transmission (M) Sdn. Bhd., and SMEC (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. JV in optimizing the project design.
