ANDRITZ has been awarded a contract by Compagnia Valdostana delle Acque (CVA) to rehabilitate the Valpelline hydropower plant in Italy’s Aosta Valley. The contract, valued in the mid double-digit million-euro range, is included in ANDRITZ’s order intake for the third quarter of 2025.
Commissioned in 1958 and powered by the Place Moulin reservoir, one of Europe’s largest, Valpelline has an installed capacity of about 130MW and a net head exceeding 900m, making it one of the highest-drop plants in Europe. With two generating units, the plant plays a key role in Italy’s national energy strategy and cross-border electricity interconnection.
The project includes the supply of two new 87 MVA synchronous generators, four Pelton runners, spherical valves, penstock components, and a complete upgrade of the cooling and electrical systems. Each generator will fully comply with the new European grid code regulation. Civil works, dismantling, reassembly, commissioning, and site management are also included.
Once completed, the rehabilitation is expected to increase Valpelline’s installed capacity by 15% and maintain its contribution to Italy’s renewable energy supply for decades.
ANDRITZ recently announced that it has been selected by Dravske elektrarne Maribor d.o.o. (DEM), Slovenia’s largest renewable energy producer, to carry out a full refurbishment of the Formin hydropower plant.
