Applications are open for the Global Women in Clean Energy (GWiCE) Fellowship, an initiative led by RMI through its Energy Transition Academy (ETA). The programme aims to accelerate the participation and leadership of women in Africa’s rapidly evolving clean energy sector.
The fully funded, five-month virtual fellowship will begin on 28 May 2026 and is open to women working across the clean energy landscape in Nigeria, Ethiopia, Zambia, Madagascar, Comoros, South Africa, and Kenya. Notably, the programme has no age limit, underscoring its inclusive approach to professional development.
Designed to equip participants with both technical and leadership capabilities, the fellowship offers training in distributed energy resources (DERs), alongside applied leadership and project management skills. Fellows will also benefit from mentorship by global energy leaders and undertake a capstone project aimed at delivering real-world impact within their respective markets.
A key highlight of the programme is the opportunity for selected participants to attend an in-person Leadership Accelerator scheduled for October 2026, providing further networking and professional growth opportunities.
The time commitment is approximately 15 hours per month, including biweekly two-hour live sessions, making it accessible for working professionals. The application process requires candidates to submit detailed personal and professional information, as well as demonstrate their commitment to the programme. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to submit a short video in early May, with final selections announced by 18 May 2026.
According to organisers, the initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen gender diversity in the clean energy transition while building a pipeline of skilled professionals capable of driving sustainable energy solutions across Africa.
Applications must be submitted by 26 April 2026 at 23:59 GMT. Interested candidates can apply via the official application portal.
