The 10B litre Cowarra off-creek storage dam is a significant addition to the water storage of the Port Macquarie-Hastings area in New South Wales (NSW). The dam, near Wauchope, is now almost 92% full. The facility will in affect be a back-up supply to the Port Macquarie dam and utilised when river flows fall below acceptable levels for pumping and during times of drought. The dam will also supply water to Camden Haven and Bonny Hills reservoirs and cater for growth in the Sancrox and Thrumster areas west of Port Macquarie.
The Pproject includes an earthfill embankment 43m high with a crest length of 545m, and a saddle dam 18m high with a crest length of 130m. Other works include a concrete and rock gabion spillway channel, a 38m high concrete tower outlet, a pump station and electrical installations·
