Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC) has signed a contract with Entura to prepare detailed feasibility reports for the 590MW Chamkharchhu II and 364MW Chamkharchhu IV hydropower projects in Bhutan.

The agreement, signed on 15 October 2026, covers two schemes with a combined capacity of 954MW. The reports are scheduled for completion within 18–24 months, with project design and planning to follow Bhutan Hydropower Guidelines and international best practices.

The studies are financed by the World Bank under Subcomponent 3.3 of the Accelerating Transport and Trade Connectivity in Eastern South Asia Phase 2 – Bhutan Project.

DGPC said strategic partners have already been identified for both schemes. Project structuring will begin while the feasibility reports are being prepared, with the aim of accelerating implementation.

The projects are intended to support grid reliability, reduce dependence on fossil fuels and contribute to Bhutan’s target of 25,000MW of installed generation capacity by 2040.
