The project, to be located in Gratkorn, will generate renewable energy for the north of Graz. It will be developed on behalf of the JV by Verbund Hydro Power AG.
In addition to electricity production, the Mur plant will also improve flood protection for neighbouring municipalities. A new, additional Mur bridge will enhance the recreational offer and cycle path network for cyclists, pedestrians and recreational athletes in the vicinity of the power plant.
Construction is expected to start in autumn 2013, with commissioning likely in 2016.
