Fatalities as fire breaks out at Indian hydro plant

Nine people have in an incident at the Srisailam left bank hydropower plant in Nagarkarnool District, Telangana, India, news wires have reported.

According to early reports a fire broke out at the underground hydropower facility after a short circuit triggered an explosion. There were 30 people on site at the time of the incident, with 15 able to escape to safety and another six people rescued.

An investigation is now underway to discover the cause of the accident, and power has been suspended at the facility.
