NHPC Limited has resumed commercial operation of Unit 3 (170MW) at its 510MW Teesta-V Hydropower plant in Sikkim, India, restoring the plant to its full installed capacity.

The company said commercial operation of the unit recommenced on 16 July 2026. Unit 3 was synchronised with India’s National Grid on 15 July before completing full-load testing at its rated capacity of 170MW on 16 July.

With the return of Unit 3, all three 170MW generating units at the Teesta-V plant are now back in commercial operation.

The station was severely affected by the October 2023 natural disaster in Sikkim, which disrupted operations and damaged hydropower infrastructure across the Teesta basin.

Commenting on the milestone, NHPC Chairman and Managing Director Bhupender Gupta said the restoration reflected the company’s technical capability and the efforts of its engineering and operations teams in bringing the project back into service. He added that the plant’s return to full operation would support India’s energy security and contribute to the country’s renewable energy generation.
