ANDRITZ has secured an order from Tata Power to supply pumped storage units for the 1000MW Bhivpuri pumped storage plant in Maharashtra, India.
The order, valued in the low three-digit million euro range, will be recorded in ANDRITZ’s order intake for the first quarter of 2026.
Under the contract, ANDRITZ will provide three reversible pump turbines, motor-generators and associated electromechanical equipment. The scope includes design, manufacturing, installation, testing and commissioning. The company said execution will use its manufacturing facilities in India alongside its global engineering and project delivery network.
The Bhivpuri plant is intended to support Maharashtra’s expanding renewable energy capacity and improve grid reliability. Pumped storage facilities balance electricity supply and demand and enable greater integration of variable renewable sources such as solar and wind.
“Large-scale energy storage is essential for integrating growing shares of variable renewable power,” said Ravindra G, Regional Executive and Managing Director & CEO, ANDRITZ Hydropower India. “With advanced pumped storage technology, ANDRITZ is contributing to the development of resilient energy systems that support long-term decarbonization while ensuring reliable electricity supply.”
Tata Power is expanding its clean energy portfolio with investments in storage infrastructure, including pumped hydro projects. The company aims to support dispatchable renewable energy and strengthen grid stability through integrated generation and storage solutions.
The Bhivpuri project is the first major pumped storage contract awarded by Tata Power to ANDRITZ.
ANDRITZ said it is currently involved in seven pumped storage projects in India with a combined capacity exceeding 11GW.
