International technology group ANDRITZ has been awarded a contract by Energotehnika Južna Bačka to supply ten turbines for the modernisation of the Vlasinske hydropower plants in Serbia.
The order, valued in the lower double-digit million-euro range, has been booked in ANDRITZ’s order intake for the first quarter of 2026.
The Vlasinske cascade, located on the Vrla River, consists of four hydropower plants that have been in operation since 1955. The facilities currently have a combined installed capacity of about 130MW. The modernisation is expected to increase installed capacity by 8MW while supporting continued reliable operation.
Under the contract, ANDRITZ will design, manufacture, supervise installation, and commission four Pelton and six Francis turbine units, along with associated equipment. The project will be executed in phases to allow electricity production to continue during the upgrade works.
The modernisation is intended to improve efficiency, reliability, and safety across the cascade, while contributing to increased renewable electricity generation in southern Serbia.
The project is supported by international financing, including a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and forms part of a broader renovation program led by state-owned utility Elektroprivreda Srbije.
