ClearPower Global has been selected by the Olmos Tinajones Special Project (PEOT) to develop hydropower within the Tinajones water system in Peru. The company said it plans to invest US$35m in an initial development of up to 20MW.
The proposed installations would place modular turbines at suitable elevation drops within infrastructure that delivers water to farms and communities. ClearPower said the Tinajones hydropower turbines would generate electricity while maintaining the system’s water delivery function.
ClearPower estimates annual generation of up to 184GWh from the initial sites. PEOT has also identified potential locations for further development, subject to site conditions, the company said.
The agreement includes a 30-year concession, after which the hydropower infrastructure will revert to PEOT. ClearPower said it will be responsible for operation and maintenance and expects to pay PEOT at least PEN1.5 million (approximately US$444,000) a year from the electricity generated.
